Most developing countries have the problems that government suppressed the freedom of speech. Government command secret police arrest news reporter, close newspaper. Journalists resist the government like warriors. Sometimes they throw out themselves for the freedom of speech.
However the situation in Korea is opposite to that. Journalism suppressed government. For several years, Korean progressive President Noh has made renovating policies for poor people. But the policies always have been received banter from newspaper. The press often distorts president’s speeches and despises his opinion seriously.
Actually, most newspapers have been tamed by dictators in the 1980s. At first, they stayed in the silence when they should tell the truth. As time goes by, Korean newspapers have had hegemony and spoken for the capitalists. Especially they represent the opinions of companies that provide money by Advertisement.
Samsung, the biggest company in Korea, has an accident that a ship crushed in the ocean a month ago. Unfortunately the ship carried a lot of oil which is loose in the sea. The accident contaminated Korean ocean environment seriously. Some environmental activist said that is a terrible disaster can not be recovered in 40 years. However Korean journalism did not appoint which company made the disaster. They do not want harm the reputation of Samsung. Journalists know that Samsung will stop providing advertisement if they emphasize the responsibility of the accident. Of course this is not an illegal action. However regarding the responsibility of journalism, this is obviously dereliction of duty.
Newspapers often threaten companies for money. I have worked at public relation team for 4year. Our company also gave 50,000 dollars to avoid the damage of company’s reputation
In conclusion, Korean Journalism depends on capitalist inordinately. If they can not stand independently in financial condition, they are always unfair.

하지만 한국에서의 상황은 반대다. 언론은 정부를 탄압하다. 근 몇 년간 한국의 진보적인 노 대통령은 가난한 이들을 위한 혁신적인 정책을 만들었다. 그러나 그 정책들은 언제나 신문으로부터 조롱을 받아왔다. 그들은 대통령의 연설을 왜곡하고 그의 의견을 심각하게 경멸했다.
사실 대부분의 신문들은 1980년대 독재자로부터 길들여져 왔다. 처음에 그들은 진실을 이야기 해야 할 때 침묵을 지켰다. 시간이 지나면서 한국의 신문은 기득권을 쥐기 시작했고, 자본가들을 대변해왔다. 특별히 그들은 광고를 통해서 자금을 대주는 기업들의 의견을 대변하곤 했다.
한국의 가장 큰 기업인 삼성은 한 달 전 선박 충돌하는 사고가 있었다. 불운하게도 그 배는 기름을 싣고 있었고, 그것들은 바다 위에서 유출됐다. 그 사건은 한국의 해양환경을 심각하게 오염시켰다. 어떤 환경운동가는 40년 동안 회복될 수 없는 끔찍한 재앙이라고 했다. 그러나 한국의 언론들은 어떤 기업이 그 재앙을 만들었는지 지적하지 않았다. 그들은 삼성의 명예를 훼손시키고자 하지 않았다. 언론인들은 자신들이 삼성의 책임을 강조했을 때, 삼성이 더 이상 광고를 공급하지 않을 것을 알고 있었다. 물론 이것은 불법적인 일은 아니다. 하지만 언론의 책임이라는 면에서 봤을 때 이것은 명백한 직무유기다.
신문들은 종종 돈을 위해 기업들을 협박하기도 한다. 나는 4년간 PR팀에서 일했다. 우리 회사도 회사의 명성이 더러워지는 것을 피하기 위해 5000만원 정도를 준 적이 있다.
결론적으로 한국의 언론은 지나치게 자본가들에게 의존하고 있다. 그들이 재정적인 면에서 독립하지 않는다면, 그들은 언제나 공정하지 못할 것이다.
